1. What is a Particulate Oxidation Catalyst (POC)?

A POC is a diesel exhaust aftertreatment device that reduces CO, HC, and the oxidizable organic fraction of particulate matter through catalytic oxidation.

2. How does a POC work?

Exhaust gases pass through a catalyst-coated honeycomb substrate where CO, HC, and organic particulate compounds are oxidized into less harmful substances.

3. What is the difference between a POC and a DOC?

A DOC mainly oxidizes CO and HC, while a POC also helps reduce the soluble organic fraction (SOF) of diesel particulate matter.

4. What is the difference between a POC and a DPF?

A DPF physically traps particulate matter using a wall-flow structure, whereas a POC reduces oxidizable particulate components through catalytic oxidation without storing soot.

5. Does a POC remove all particulate matter?

No. A POC mainly reduces the oxidizable organic portion of particulate matter rather than physically capturing all particles.

6. Does a POC require regeneration?

No. Unlike a wall-flow DPF, a POC does not require soot regeneration because it does not store particulate matter in the same way.

7. Can a POC work with DOC, DPF, and SCR systems?

Yes. A POC can be integrated with DOC, DPF, and SCR systems depending on the exhaust aftertreatment design.

8. What substrate materials are used in a POC?

POCs typically use ceramic or metallic honeycomb substrates coated with precious metal catalysts.

9. Which vehicles commonly use POCs?

10. Does a POC require regular maintenance?

Routine inspection is recommended, but maintenance requirements are generally lower than those of wall-flow DPF systems because a POC does not accumulate soot in the same way.
